Thesis Title: Beyond the Moral Panic: Attraction and the Audience Relationship with Screen Violence.
About
Currently a PhD candidate at Swinburne University of Technology and jointly supervised across the schools of Media, Multimedia and Communications and Psychology. A previous research focus has been the epistemology of the audience relationship with screen violence. This continues in the current work with a view to finding new approaches to investigating attraction to and engagement with forms of screen violence, pertaining in particular to cinema and digital games. A secondary focus of the research is modes of power within this arena. The particular focus here is academic influence on the long standing moral panics surrounding this debate and the polarised nature of the discourse.
